Getting Started with Everstory
Follow these simple steps to build, organise, and share your story.
Everstory guides you through your memories one question at a time. Instead of staring at a blank page, you're gently prompted — "What is your earliest childhood memory?" or "Describe the home you grew up in." You answer in your own words, your own voice, at your own pace. Each response becomes a beautifully preserved story, organised automatically by theme — childhood, family, career, love, faith, and more.
The guided questions reach back — into your childhood, your relationships, your defining moments, your faith, your regrets, your proudest days. They ask the things your children and grandchildren would desperately want to know, but might never think to ask while they still can.
What makes it different from a journal?
A journal tends to capture today, not a lifetime. Most people write about what happened this week, not what shaped who they are. And when the journal is full, it sits on a shelf — handwritten and private, accessible only to whoever finds it one day.
Everstory is built to be shared. Your stories are organised, searchable, enriched with photos and your own voice recordings, and shareable with a private link. It's the difference between writing for yourself and writing for the people who will love you long after you're gone.
Your pace, your way
Some people answer one question a week. Others sit down for an hour and capture a decade. Either way, Everstory keeps everything organised, searchable, and beautifully presented — ready to be shared with family whenever you choose.
- Go to the Create page.
- Choose between Story Prompts (longer memories with details) or Voice Prompts (quick recordings of your voice, laughter, or phrases).
- Click the prompt title to edit it or select "Write my own prompt" to create a completely custom question.
- Write your story by typing, or click the button to dictate with voice-to-text (not available in free trial on mobile platforms).
- Use the "Improve My Sentences" button to polish your writing with AI assistance.
- Upload existing documentation: If you already have written memoirs, journals, or documentation in DOCX or PDF format (max 10MB each), upload them in the "Import Written Documentation" section. These will be included in your Memory Book, Audiobook, Fiction Novel, and Autobiography.
- Add photos, videos, or audio recordings using the media upload section.
- Categorise your memory and optionally add the year it's from for better organisation.
- To write stories for your children, first add them in the Family Hub, then select their name from the dropdown on the create page.
- Click "Save this memory" to store it securely in your collection.

- On the My Stories page, click "Manage Tags" to create custom tags like "Funny", "Important", "Favorite".
- Assign tags to stories to organize them by theme, emotion, or any system that works for you.
- Filter stories by clicking on tags to quickly find related memories.
- Navigate to the Family page to add your children.
- Create chapters for each child (e.g., "Baby's First Year", "Starting School").
- When creating stories, select the child's name to organize their memories separately.
- Download individual child story collections or your entire family archive.
- Visit the Media Gallery page.
- Browse all your uploaded media organized by type (photos, videos, audio).
- Filter by story, child, category, or date range.
- Download individual files or bulk export your entire media collection.
- View which stories each media item is attached to.
- Check the Insights page.
- See your total stories, favorite categories, and storytelling timeline.
- View memory distribution across decades and family members.
- Track your most productive writing periods and category preferences.
- Discover which years and themes you've documented most.
Go to My Stories and use these AI-powered features:
💡 Tip: These AI features work best when you have multiple stories created. The more memories you add, the richer and more detailed your generated content will be!
- Go to the My Stories page.
- Click "Share My Storybook" to create a secure access link.
- Enter the recipient's name (e.g., "My Granddaughter, Sarah") and optionally their email.
- Share via email, copy the link, or generate a QR code they can scan with their phone.
- Recipients get full browsing access to your personal and family stories with filtering options.
- Alternatively, download a beautifully formatted PDF of your stories from the "My Stories" page.
- Visit the Share Everstory page.
- Get your unique referral code and link to share with friends and family.
- Download your QR code or print professional business cards with your referral.
- When someone signs up and subscribes using your code, you BOTH get a free month.
- There's no limit—refer 10 friends, get 10 free months!
- Track your rewards and free months earned in your referral dashboard.
- Go to the Settings page.
- Scroll to the "Story Guardian" section.
- Enter the name and email of your trusted guardian.
- Your guardian will receive secure access if your account becomes inactive.
- You can update or change your guardian at any time.
- This ensures your memories are preserved and shared according to your wishes.
Each Everstory account belongs to one person. Your stories are yours — private, secure, and accessible only to you unless you choose to share them. There is no shared family workspace where multiple people write into the same account.
The "Family" feature inside your account is for you to write stories about your children — their milestones, early years, and memories you want to preserve on their behalf. You can create a profile for each child, organise their stories into chapters, and keep their memories separate from your own.
If other family members — a partner, a parent, a sibling — want to capture their own stories, they each create their own separate Everstory account. Their memories are theirs. Yours are yours. The connection happens through sharing: you can share your storybook with them via a private link, and they can share theirs with you.
When you're ready to share, you create a private Share Link — just for the person you want to share with. They receive a personal link that opens your story collection in a beautiful, easy-to-read format. No app download required. No account needed. They simply click and read.
- Create different links for different people — grandchildren, siblings, old friends
- Choose whether to include family members' stories or keep it to your stories alone
- Revoke any link at any time from your Family page
- No public profiles, no social feeds, no algorithms — just private sharing with people you trust
- Set reminder preferences: Choose how often you'd like gentle email reminders to add memories (daily, weekly, or monthly).
- Use voice recording: Don't just write—capture your actual voice, laughter, and the way you say things for a richer legacy.
- Add year context: Include the year of each memory to create a beautiful timeline view in Insights.
- Organise with categories: Use categories consistently to make browsing and filtering easier later.
- Regular backups: Download your archive periodically as a backup of your precious memories.
- Start small: Don't feel overwhelmed—even one memory per week adds up to 52 stories per year!
